Introduction

Taking into account the new facts in the European Union, the mission of public school has been extended. Even though education and socialization remain some of student’s main goals* our time compels us to add more objectives, emphasising on our students’ acquisition of qualities that will thoroughly prepare them for their future. In reality, school’s new mission indicates how important it is for the student to be prepared so that in the future he/she will be an independent, sociable and successful adult both in his private and professional life. It is obvious, though, that this bet is much more difficult to be won by young people with special needs or with difficulties of learning or even adaptation.

This school cooperation aims at the broadening of the European dimension of education with the promotion of collaboration among the educational institutions that act jointly. The schools’ project will give students and teachers the opportunity to work together on a subject that interests everybody: “European school and professional orientation: a necessity for all”

The proposed project presupposes the active participation of students and it will activate both the teachers and the executives, of the schools in cooperation, on pedagogic but also management and organisation issues. The cooperation will allow the realisation of a supranational collaboration among students and educators from seven European countries. It is essential for the partners of the project that they sensitise the students with regard to the European dimension of Long Life Learning, professional orientation, the professions and the job market.

The aim of this project is to help students, teachers and parents, but the local society as well, to comprehend and realise two basic ideas and values: Long Life Learning and the promotion of a Europe that boosts knowledge. The intensification of the ability to have access in knowledge – at every age and place in the planet - is universally important. In a rapidly changing world where we have to be able to adapt each time, the school project will try to offer knowledge that will simplify the finding and undertaking of work; it constitutes a way of obtaining recognised qualifications but also necessary social abilities that will allow individual advancement. Taking part in this collaboration, students will have a great chance to get to know new cultures and civilisations, broaden their horizons and be prepared to have an active part as members of Europe.

* We should note that the term ‘student’, when used, refers both to girls and boys.
